I bought this because I wanted to start a very small garden. I had no idea what I was doing, so by chance I happened to have a friend's husband build a 4 ft by 4ft frame, then researched how much to plant. Along the way, I discovered the SFG method and this book. I did not use Mel's mix at that time, but used bagged garden soil instead. It is too early to tell how things will come out. If I did another garden bed, I would try his formula as it likely works better. As for the book, it reads very well, and was very informative. I really loved his planting method and wished I had seen that before I planted my own. He gave tips on handling small seeds and how to properly space things in this type of garden bed plan. Lots of good stuff; I would recommend to anyone.
